Verbaloft is published by Chenglin Wu. This policy explains how the app handles information.
Verbaloft recognizes speech and translates it entirely on your device, using Apple's on-device speech and translation frameworks. Your audio, camera images, and translations are not sent to us or to any cloud translation service.
1. Information We Handle
1.1 Stored on your device
Verbaloft stores the following on your device only:
- Transcripts: the recognized original text and its translation for subtitle, Live Translate, conversation, and file sessions, with their titles, dates, durations, and languages.
- Recent text translations: the last few texts you translated, so you can reopen them.
- Settings: your languages (including My Language), subtitle style, and other preferences.
- Media you choose to translate: for a file from the Files app, a bookmark that lets Verbaloft reopen the original file; for a video from Photos, the photo's identifier; for a file shared into Verbaloft from another app, a copy kept inside the app. A shared copy is deleted when no transcript uses it any more.
- Free trial usage: how much of the one-time floating-subtitle trial you have used, stored in the iOS Keychain so the trial is not reset by reinstalling the app.
1.2 Processed on your device and not saved
- Audio from other apps: when you start a screen broadcast for subtitles, iOS gives the Verbaloft broadcast extension your screen and audio. Verbaloft uses only the audio, processes it in real time on your device, and does not record or save the screen or the audio.
- Microphone audio: used for Live Translate and conversations, processed in real time on your device, and not recorded or saved.
- Camera images: used to recognize and translate text on your device. Camera frames and captured photos are not saved to your photo library or uploaded.
- Audio tracks of files you translate: read on your device to create subtitles.
Only the resulting text is kept, as a transcript, when a session ends.
1.3 Purchases (RevenueCat and Apple)
Verbaloft uses RevenueCat to manage Verbaloft Pro. RevenueCat receives a pseudonymous app user identifier, purchase receipts, product identifiers, and subscription or purchase status so Verbaloft can provide and restore Pro access. This information is not linked to your name or email address. Apple processes payments and related transaction information under Apple's policies.
1.4 Language downloads
Speech recognition models and translation languages are Apple system resources. When you download a language, iOS downloads it from Apple, under Apple's policies. Verbaloft does not receive information about these downloads beyond whether a language is installed.
1.5 What we do not collect
Verbaloft has no user accounts, advertising, analytics, or tracking. We do not collect names, email addresses, phone numbers, location, contacts, advertising identifiers, or activity across other apps and websites. We cannot see your audio, images, transcripts, or translations.
2. How We Use Information
Information on your device is used only to show subtitles and translations, save and display your transcripts, play back the media you translated, export transcripts when you ask, remember your settings, and provide purchased features. Purchase information is used only to provide and restore Verbaloft Pro.
3. Sharing and Service Providers
We do not sell or share personal information. Purchase information is processed by Apple for App Store payments and by RevenueCat for purchase management and entitlement status, under their own privacy policies. When you export a transcript, you choose where it goes using the iOS share sheet.
4. Permissions
- Microphone: used only for Live Translate and conversations, while you are using them. Audio is processed on your device and not saved.
- Camera: used only on the camera translation screen to recognize text. Images are processed on your device and not saved.
- Photo Library (read only): requested the first time you choose a video from Photos to translate, and used only to play that video back with its subtitles inside Verbaloft. Translating works without it. Verbaloft never adds to or changes your photo library. Choosing a picture for camera translation uses the system picker and needs no permission.
- Screen broadcast: you start it yourself from the system broadcast sheet each time, and iOS shows a red indicator while it runs. Verbaloft uses only the audio, as described in section 1.2.
5. Your Choices
You can deny or turn off any permission in iOS Settings; the related feature will not work, and the rest of the app still does. You can rename or delete individual transcripts, delete downloaded languages in iOS Settings, or delete the app. You can manage subscriptions in your Apple Account settings and use Restore Purchases in Verbaloft.
6. Children's Privacy
Verbaloft is a general-audience utility and does not knowingly collect personal information from children. It has no advertising, chat with other users, or public user-generated content.
7. Data Retention
Data on your device stays until you delete it or delete the app. The Keychain record of free trial usage may remain on the device after the app is deleted, so that the one-time trial is not repeated. Purchase records are kept by Apple and RevenueCat according to their legal and operational requirements.
8. Security
Verbaloft relies on iOS data protection for information on your device, and on the encrypted connections used by Apple and RevenueCat for purchases. No system can guarantee absolute security.
9. International Processing
Apple and RevenueCat may process pseudonymous purchase information in several countries under their own policies. Everything else stays on your device.
10. Changes
We may update this policy as Verbaloft changes. The Last Updated date identifies the current version.
